About Us

Club History

Bluegrass Soccer Club (BSC) was founded to meet a growing need for competitive youth soccer in Versailles, Kentucky. What began as an initiative connected to the Woodford Youth Soccer Association has evolved into a structured, well-respected club with a reputation for developing young athletes both on and off the field. Over the years, BSC has grown steadily not just in numbers, but in vision and values.

While we continue to share a community with WYSA, Bluegrass Soccer Club operates as its own program, fielding multiple boys’ and girls’ teams from U9 through U18. Our players represent the club across Kentucky and surrounding states, competing in high-quality tournaments and leagues. Above all, we remain committed to creating a strong soccer community that promotes sportsmanship, growth, and excellence.

Our Mission

Bluegrass Soccer Club is committed to creating a positive and competitive environment where players can focus on individual growth and goal setting that follows them in the game and off the field. We focus on age-appropriate training, strong fundamentals, and building a lasting love for the game.

Our mission is to ensure every player feels supported, challenged, and part of something bigger than themselves. We strive to help young athletes build confidence, develop teammate relationships, and enjoy their experience every step of the way.

Our work on the field is meant to go beyond the scoreboard. We aim to shape respectful, resilient individuals who carry what they learn on the field into other areas of their lives. From the first touch to the final whistle, we aim to help them grow their character and understand how far hard work and sportsmanship can take them.

Our Philosophy

Bluegrass SC is dedicated to developing competitive youth soccer teams that strive for state and regional championships — while preparing players for success in college and beyond. Our goal is to help athletes earn opportunities based on both their playing ability and academic achievement.

We believe winning should go hand-in-hand with building character. That means fostering self-esteem, confidence, and sportsmanship in every player, and ensuring coaches, parents, and officials uphold the highest standards of ethics and respect.

Our approach combines a drive for victory with a structured development path, exceptional coaching, and advanced training techniques — always remembering that soccer is, at its core, a game to be enjoyed.

We seek players and families who share our values:

  • Creating an environment where players can reach their full potential
  • Developing individual skills and team tactics for state and regional competition
  • Supporting college-bound athletes through recruitment guidance and scholarships
  • Promoting the game of soccer and instilling a lifelong love for fútbol

Parent Expectations

We view families as an essential part of a player’s soccer journey. Parents are expected to model sportsmanship, support the club’s mission, and maintain positive communication with coaches and team managers throughout the season.

Board & Staff

Bluegrass Soccer Club is led by a team of volunteers and staff who care deeply about the players, families, and the future of the club. Our board includes parents, coaches, and community members who hold a passion for the sport and bring a wide range of experience and perspective to the organization.

Day to day, BSC is supported by staff who handle practice and game logistics, scheduling, field coordination, and player registration. Each person involved plays a key role in keeping our club running smoothly behind the scenes. Our support from our staff allows coaches to coach, players to play, and families to be a part of the experience.

Training & try out FAQs

Have questions about the try out process? Here are some of the most common questions we get from families throughout the season.

  • When are 2025-2026 try outs?

Tryouts for U9-U14 are May 20, 2025 and May 22, 2025 at 6pm.  Tryouts for U15-U19 are June 9, 2025 and June 10, 2025 at 6pm.  Please arrive at least 30 minutes early for tryouts.  Each tryout session will last one hour. Attending both sessions is highly recommended for better evaluation but not required.

  • Where are tryouts located?

Tryouts are at the Woodford Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) complex located at 126 Industry Drive, Versailles, KY 40383.

  • The tryout form contains a “position” selection. Does this indicate the position that I’m tryout out for?

Please select all positions of interest on the form; however, this does not guarantee that the player will play this position on any BSC team.

  • What can I expect at tryouts?

Players will check-in with their age groups and verify that all pre-registration information was completed.  Players will be assigned a number and a pinnie to allow for identification.  Players will report to their respective age group area where they will be led through a series of drills and/or scrimmages to assess their skills.  Drills and/or scrimmages will vary based on the players at tryouts.  A similar format will be used for the second day of tryouts.

  • What age group do I tryout with?

Table of birth years and corresponding youth age groups, from U9 to U19.

Players are to try out based on their birth year, per US Youth Soccer guidelines. Returning players who previously played up may try tout with the older group on day 1 of tryouts.

  • How will I be notified if I made the team?

All players will be notified (offer, waitlist, or no-offer) within 6 business days after the final tryout.

  • How often do teams practice?

Teams typically practice twice a week during the season.  Optional club-wide training sessions can occur during the off-season.

  • Where are practices and games held?

Most practices and home games take place at the WYSA Complex in Versailles. Select teams may also train at Falling Springs or participate in tournaments across the region.

  • How often do teams play matches?

Teams typically play weekend games, with occasional weekday matches. Game frequency depends on age and competition level. Most teams participate in at least two tournaments per season.

  • What is the travel requirement?

League matches are generally located within an hour or two of Central Kentucky.  Tournaments are typically within KY or the surrounding states.

  • Why are out of area tournaments required?

Out-of-area tournaments provide exposure to higher competition, foster team chemistry and help players experience diverse playing styles in a professional environment including:

Gaining experience in playing higher level of competition

    Playing in a high-pressure atmosphere

    Building team camaraderie and chemistry

Seeing and playing against different styles of play

Participating in a professional soccer environment
