 05/28/09   State Cup 2009
The Bluegrass 93 Boys completed another successful season last weekend by going 2-0-1 during State Cup play. The games started with a tough match-up against the top-seeded team, 93 Storm, in our bracket. With excellent preparation by our coach, Jacob Sither, the boys executed his plan to start the game as a defensive match. With a 0-0 tie at half, the Bluegrass boys were able to change it up a bit in the second and start to create some offense. While unable to put one in the net, we succeeded in stopping Storm as well with the game ending in a highly charged 0-0 tie. With this type of start, we knew both our teams would need to max out on goals and shut-outs to hopefully make it to pk's to determine the bracket winner. Storm got started first in their second match by getting the max to put the pressure on Bluegrass. In our second game, which was played side by side with Storm, we both battled from 0-0 ties to max out in the second half. There was lots of friendly banter between parents as Storm would score, then Bluegrass would score--everyone realizing the importance of keeping the games a shut-out but also scoring at least 4 goals. Heading into Monday's games, Bluegrass had two matches scheduled but knew if we did not have a 4-0 result in the first game, the final game would be meaningless. Going against a tough NK United team, Bluegrass battled for 80 minutes but were lucky to escape with a 1-0 win and no injuries or red cards on the Blue side. While we were happy with the win, we knew it would not be enough to advance to the semi-finals the next weekend. All in all though, it was a great way to end a season where the team continued to improve with each game.

05/26/08   STATE CUP 08--BSC 93 Boys have great weekend!
The Bluegrass 93 boys had a successful weekend of play at the State Open Cup with 2 wins and 1 tie before the final game would determine the team to advance to the semi-finals next weekend in Bowling Green. Bluegrass opened play against LSA East on Saturday coming away with a 3-2 victory. They next met JPSC on Sunday in the first of a double-header. Against a very "verbal" and physical team, Bluegrass pulled out the victory 2-1 with three yellow cards being shown during the game. With two wins under their belt, the boys were looking for another victory against NK United but poor play in the first half allowed NK to go up by a goal before Bluegrass came back strong in the second half to end the game in a 1-1 tie. Going into their final game on Monday, Bluegrass was tied in points with defending state runner-up LFC Premier. They knew they had to win the game as a tie would tie them in points but they would lose in tiebreakers. The boys were hoping for a Cinderella story in an upset over LFC Premier but the spell was broken as Bluegrass lost 3-0. While it was disappointing to have the loss, the boys played great all weekend and showed they can compete with the best.
05/26/08   Jacob Sither to be NEW coach of the 93 Boys
Bluegrass Soccer Club is proud to announce Jacob Sither as the new coach for the 93 boys. He replaces Trinity Davis who has been with the team for the past two years and is taking some time off to be with his family. We wish Trinity the best as he has been a great coach and role model for the boys. And now the new coach---Jacob Sither was an NSCAA All-American at Centre College where he set the school's single season shutout record with 11 clean sheets in 2002. Sither tallied a 0.60 Goals Against Average while recording 11 shut-outs, both school records. Jacob became Centre’s first goalkeeper to earn NSCAA/Adidas All-American honors during the 2002 season, his junior campaign. He holds his NSCAA Level 2 Regional Goalkeeping Diploma. He has been the goalkeeper coach for both the boys and girls at Lafayette High School, where he also served as an assistant coach for the girls team. He has coached for Lexington FC and Bluegrass Soccer Club where he now serves as Head Coach of the U12 Boys. He is currently the assistant Goalkeeper Coach for Kentucky ODP/PDP. Jacob is entering his 8th year with KeeperEdge. We look forward to Jacob and the exciting things he will bring to the team.

03/16/08   BSC 93 Boys win Kick In the Bluegrass tournament
Although the weather conditions were less than ideal, the Bluegrass 93 boys survived 3 shoot-outs to win the U15 age group this past weekend at the Kick in the Bluegrass tournament. After winning the opening game 2-0 over Hoosier Orange, weather conditions deteriorated and the next two games had to be determined by shoot-out. Advancing to the championship after 1-0 victories in each of those match-ups, the BSC team was able to play a full match against a very good WAZA 93 team. Tied after regulation and overtime, the championship game went into a shoot-out where the Bluegrass team escaped with the victory, 1-0. Many thanks to all teams who participated and especially Charleston FC for the early Sunday morning scrimmage. If all fields had been in the condition of the Midway field, perhaps we could have gotten in a few more full games.
